***This book was previously released as Forever Light in October 2014. Surviving Regret has a new cover, has been fully reedited from cover to cover, and over 20, 000 words have been added.
Wow this book was hard to read. Not because it was a terrible story but because it was just really good and it’s an emotional roller coaster. This book will break your heart and it will put it back together with a few broken pieces. I liked this book from the start because it had that teenage angsty feel too it. You all should know by now how I feel about angst. It also started from the beginning with this foreshadowed sense of doom. You know something bad is going to happen and it’s going to wreck everything.
The characters in this book are tragically broken. Their friendships are gone, the things they’ve know to be are shattered, and as a reader your heart breaks. I actually cried so many times throughout this book. Megan Smith just really writes these characters so realistically
There is a lot of drama in this book and at times I wanted to throw my phone and scream “Oh no they didn’t!” I would have really liked if there would have been more conflict in the last 20 percent of the story. The characters fought tooth and nail throughout the book and I would have liked to see that carry out until the very end. All in all though, it worked out.
I’m so glad I agreed to read this book. It’s a rerelease with 20k additional words added in. I can’t help but think that Megan Smith did reflect on her writing to make this a truly beautiful broken story. This is a 4.5 star read for me. Very well done, Megan Smith.
